Smoke Detector Certification Inspections

The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code 5:70-2.3(a) states: “Before any one or two family structure is sold, leased or otherwise made subject to a change of occupancy for residential purposes, the owner shall obtain a Certificate of Smoke Alarm,  Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC), evidencing compliance with N.J.A.C 5:70-4.19, from the appropriate enforcing agency.”

Below are links to the application, smoke, carbon monoxide and fire extinguisher requirements. Payment must be made prior to the application being processed. Please note the following:
ALL BATTERY operated smoke alarms must be 10 year, sealed battery type smoke alarm. This DOES NOT apply to electrically operated smoke alarms. ALL smoke alarms (battery and electric) must be less then 10 years old..

This, however emphasizes how important having detectors are, and not to forget fire alarms. Whether on vacation or in the home.
