SMOKE ALARM INSPECTIONS TEMPORARY COVID REQUIREMENTS NOVEMBER 2020

 November 16, 2020

Due to the evolving situation involving COVID-19, the Hillsborough Bureau of Fire Safety is temporarily suspending all CSACMAPFEC inspections and modifying the procedure for obtaining a Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC) required under N.J.A.C 5:70-2.3(a). We are taking these protective measures to help ensure the safety of the residents and staff of Hillsborough Township. We are providing the sellers of 1 and 2-Family dwellings with two options.
Option #1- During this period, the sellers of 1 and 2 family dwellings may postpone their closing until such time that we resume the CSCMAPFEC inspections. Please note that we cannot provide a date when we will resume these inspections; or
Option #2- The seller will submit a CSACMAPFEC application and fee to Fire Safety and the Sellers, Buyers and their attorneys will complete the below affidavit.  Fire Safety will review and approve the affidavit, email the “approved affidavit” and certificate to the parties and allow the closing to take place.

Please contact our office to obtain the approved affidavit or with any questions 908-369-4313 ext. 7178 or fire safety@hillsboroughfiredistrict.com

Let’s go on another adventure with Fire Marshal Dave as he plans and inspects another new community opening soon to Hillsborough.

Part of the process prior to today, Dave has joined in on several planning meetings with the Construction Site Manager as well as other agencies such as Fire sub code, engineers, and the building department. Within those meetings, all agencies bring their input to meet codes, promote safety, and make the new neighborhood pleasing to the eye. As the construction goes along visits happen by these different departments to ensure work is going as planned, and if things need slight tweaks, now is the time to make those changes.

Today, Dave and our firehouse staff visited the construction site to plan for where Fire Department signage will be placed, review the layout of the apartments, and make sure that the landscaping doesn’t interfere with us navigating the neighborhood with our big fire trucks!

We ran into minor issues and with the rapport that Dave has built over time with the Manager, he was very receptive and knows that we are looking out for everyone’s safety, and will have the issues fixed in no time! Just another day in the life of a Fire Marshal!

Still some haze hanging as air quality is worse today than yesterday. Stay inside if you are able.

Also note we are still in Stage 3 restrictions for brush and wildfires. Always stay safe and be vigilant about disposing cigarettes and ash.

While trying to prevent our own brush and wildfires, there have been lots of smoke detected in areas nearby. It’s from Canada, due to wind directions, the smoke has banked down in our area.
