 February 6, 2019

2019 FIRE DISTRICT ELECTION
The Hillsborough Fire District will hold the annual election on Saturday February 16, 2019. Polls are located at the Hillsborough Municipal Building and are open from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

There are two (2) seats open for fire commissioner. These two (2) seats are for a three (3) year term. VOTE FOR TWO

Candidates:
Marian Fenwick-Shaffer
Jeffery T. Mitchell
Charles T. Nuara

There will be a total of four (4) public questions:

1. Shall the board of fire commissioners of the Township of Hillsborough, County of Somerset operate for the year 2019 with a budget of $3,238,782 with an amount to be raised by taxation of $2,711,665?

This question authorizes the operating budget for the Hillsborough Fire District. The budget includes funding for three (3) fire stations, apparatus maintenance and repair, insurance, fuel, new and replacement equipment, LOSAP, training, Neshanic Fire Department contract, the Bureau of Fire Safety and other operating expenses. This budget allows for the funding of the fire district in the year 2019 without exceeding the 2% budget cap.

2. Shall the board of fire commissioners of the Township of Hillsborough, County of Somerset be authorized to spend not in excess of $280,000 for the purchase of a replacement fire truck?

This question authorizes the purchase of a replacement fire truck in the year 2020. The truck being replaced is a 2003 mini-pumper that is operated by the Hillsborough Fire Marshals. The current seventeen (17) year old mini-pumper responds as a quick attack fire truck during the daytime hours to supplement the volunteers. Due to its age, the existing truck presents reliability issues and the new truck will be specifically designed for these types of responses and use.

3. Shall the board of fire commissioners of the Township of Hillsborough, County of Somerset be authorized to spend not in excess of $160,000 for the purchase of a replacement fire investigation vehicle?

This question authorizes the purchase of a replacement fire investigation vehicle in the year 2020. The truck being replaced is a 1988 repurposed step van that is used for the investigation of fires to determine their origin and cause. The current thirty (30) + year old vehicle presents safety, reliability and operational issues.

4. Shall the board of fire commissioners of the Township of Hillsborough, County of Somerset be authorized to spend not in excess of $75,000 for the purchase of firefighter turnout gear?

This question authorizes the purchase of firefighting turnout gear to include pants, coats, boots, helmets, gloves and hoods in the year 2020. This gear is needed to outfit new firefighters and replace worn and damaged gear.

5. Shall the board of fire commissioners of the Township of Hillsborough, County of Somerset be authorized to spend not in excess of $80,000 for the purchase of a replacement command vehicle?

This question authorizes the purchase of fire command vehicle in the year 2020. This vehicle will replace this current vehicle at eight (8) years of age and will then allow re-use of this truck by the fire company as a deputy chief vehicle. These vehicles are owned by the fire district and are operated by incident commanders at fires and other emergencies.

Please support your hardworking firefighters.
